Macau’s casino sector experienced a temporary setback in June, attributed to the World Cup. Despite rising visitor numbers, gross gaming revenue saw a sharp drop compared to previous periods.
Macau's gross gaming revenue (GGR) fell 12.1% from a year earlier to MOP$18.5 billion ($2.29 billion) in June, marking the enclave's weakest monthly performance since September 2025 as the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup weighed on casino spending.
Switzerland’s casino market generated CHF878.5 million ($1.08 billion) in gross gaming revenue in 2025, down 2.1% from CHF898 million ($1.10 billion) a year earlier, according to the Swiss Federal Casino Commission (ESBK).
Macau’s casino revenue rose from a year earlier in April but declined from the previous month, reflecting typical seasonal weakness after a stronger March.
