The Netherlands is preparing a major overhaul of its regulated online gambling market through proposed legislation that would ban gambling advertising and bonuses while introducing centralized deposit limits, affordability checks and new enforcement powers against illegal operators.

The Justice and Security State Secretary Claudia van Bruggen announced on June 12 the proposed measures to revamp the country's online gambling sector. The new regulations aim to prohibit gambling advertising and bonuses, implement centralized deposit limits, affordability assessments, and enhance enforcement actions against unlicensed operators.

The move is part of the government's efforts to address the increasing concerns related to gambling addiction and to ensure a safer and more responsible online gambling environment in the Netherlands.
