The Indonesian government has taken down around 3.1 million gambling sites and promotional social media posts since October 2024.

The Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) Meutya Hafid stated that whistleblowers had assisted in identifying and blocking hundreds of thousands of illegal betting platforms. Despite these efforts, users utilizing virtual private networks (VPNs) are still managing to access these illicit gambling sites.

The government's ongoing battle against online gambling highlights the challenges posed by VPNs and cryptocurrencies in regulating the industry.
