Entain has urged UK clubs, leagues and governing bodies to end sponsorship agreements with gambling operators not licensed by the Gambling Commission, instead of waiting for legislation following a Department for Culture, Media and Sport consultation.
The consultation closes on September 9 and is expected to inform legislation that would then require parliamentary consideration, making substantive changes to the current regulations.
Entain emphasized the need for immediate action to protect consumers and ensure a safer gambling environment within the UK football industry.
