Dutch Gambling Association Sues Meta Over Illegal Ads

Dutch gambling trade association VNLOK has launched legal action against Meta and filed a complaint with the European Commission over the continued display of illegal online gambling advertisements on Facebook and Instagram targeting users in the Netherlands.

Dutch gambling trade association VNLOK has launched legal action against Meta and filed a complaint with the European Commission over the continued display of illegal online gambling advertisements on Facebook and Instagram targeting users in the Netherlands.

According to VNLOK, the association is taking legal steps against Meta due to the proliferation of illicit online gambling ads on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, specifically aimed at Dutch users. The association has also lodged a formal complaint with the European Commission regarding this issue.

This move comes as the Dutch illegal online gambling market is reported to be raking in over €1 billion ($1.1 billion) in estimated revenue, prompting VNLOK to take action against Meta for facilitating these unlawful advertising practices.
