Illegal Chinese World Cup betting rings are growing fast, but police say they are stepping up a crackdown in response, arresting scores of people nationwide.

Officers in Jiande, Hangzhou Province, stated that they have taken action against the rise of illegal betting operations, detaining numerous individuals across the country. Specifically, authorities in Jiande revealed the dismantling of a network of illicit cross-border gambling platforms that were targeting football enthusiasts, resulting in the confiscation of approximately $148,000 in unlawful customer deposits.

The police emphasized that the criminal group involved in these activities was operating sophisticated schemes to evade detection, but law enforcement efforts have been successful in disrupting their operations and preventing further illicit activities.
