A Chicago City Council committee has advanced legislation to ban sweepstakes gambling terminals that have been operating in a legal gray area across the city. The move comes as a setback to Mayor Brandon Johnson, whose administration sought additional time to review the proposal. The ordinance, introduced by Ald. Anthony Beale, was passed via voice vote by the Committee on License and Consumer Protection.
